HSC acquired VMR in June 2015 through the acquisition of VMR’s JSE-listed shares, thereby becoming the first Chinese non-state company to complete such a transaction in South Africa. The acquisition paved the way for significant recapitalisation of the Tau Lekoa gold mine and, following its acquisition in 2017, the nearby Kopanang gold mine.

After acquisition of VMR and subsequently the Kopanang gold mine, HSC has further invested significant capital into the two gold mine assets, to further develop and extend the life of mine.

VMR is well supported by HSC for asset turnaround, efficiency improvement and future growth.
